As state, county, and city budget reductions take place in all of our communities, the need for private fundraising for libraries has never been greater. While fundraising for public libraries is not new, the growth of library foundations appears to be on the rise. A library development program integrated with the total management system of the library can increase revenues from public and private sources.

Karla Kimerer ?Director, Library Foundation of Hennepin County

Certified fundraising executive Karla Kimerer serves as director of the Library Foundation of Hennepin County. In May 2002, she claimed cover position on Library Journal when featured in an article entitled "Foundations for the Future." She served as executive director of the Public Library of Des Moines Foundation, a position in which she grew the Foundation from a start-up organization to revenues totaling more than $350,000 in just three years.
